Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS TO BRANICTY FOR BEING THE FTF!!!!

Cache placed with permission of property owner.  The reason for placing this cache was to draw attention to this area of WV because it is not found on a WV map.  This area could easily be missed when passing through which is unfortunate since it holds a large amount of WV history.  In 1775, Gen Braddock and George Washington passed through this area while creating roads to transport troops and supplies westward.  During colonial times, many historical figures passed through this area while traveling to MD, PA, and Ohio.  In the 1800s, Bloomery was an impressive industrial town with tanneries, iron-makers, gunsmiths, wollen manufacturers, shoemakers, and millers.  Remains of the iron furnace and a few of the tannery houses can still be viewed from the roadside.  The post office that is located near GZ was established in 1814 and will celebrate its 200th year this year.  We are told that this is the longest running post office in the state of WV.  The store also near GZ has been family owned and operated for 59 years by the Omps family.  Please only search for this cache during daylight hours and feel free to stop in the store and say hello to the Omps family. There is a small trackable prize for the FTF.
