Established in 1996, the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is a vibrant arts organisation that seeks to fulfill its mission through exhibitions, artist residencies, education/outreach programmes and research projects.
The NGCI operates in both a local and global arena. As part of their mission to “promote and encourage the appreciation and practice of the visual arts, of and in the Cayman Islands” they send Caymanian art and artists abroad as well as having many fine international artists visit, exhibit and work in the Cayman Islands.
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands serves to:
- promote the appreciation and practice of the visual arts, of and in the Cayman Islands and to encourage dialogue in relation to cultural heritage, national identity, Caymanian history and the history of art;
- preserve Caymanian heritage through our collections; and
- provide access to these collections and encourage a rich exploration of culture and self, while building self-esteem and fostering creativity among all participants.
Recently NGCI built this gorgeous new gallery and grounds. Well worth a visit. Hopefully they will have a cafe soon....but not just yet.
This cache is designed to naturally blend into the surroundings. It will be tricky but most of the Gallery staff will know about it so feel free to ask for a container description inside. Please take the time to enjoy the artwork inside and the wonderful sculptures in the gardens. Don't forget to bring a pen!
Enjoy....
