Geocache Description:

Levittown Legacy #5: Somerset Park

This series of caches is dedicated to the history of Willingboro, and especially, the legacy of the Levittown years.  Somerset Park was the original Levitt neighborhood when Levitt and Sons first began building in Willingboro, NJ.  The first lands were purchased in 1954 and opening day was June 7, 1958.  Leon and Joan Mount were the first couple to move into a new home at 51 Sussex Drive in October of 1958. Unlike Levittown, NY, buyers had a choice of several different house designs.  Six sample homes were available for preview next to the Levitt and Sons Showroom and Sales Office, which were on the site where the Willingboro Plaza would be built on Rt. 130.  Houses were built on cement slabs with radiant heat in the floors.  Each house had a GE refrigerator, range, oven, and washer.  A GE dryer came only with the “C” house selection.  Screens were included and yards were fully landscaped.  Somerset School was built at the same time with a pool to accommodate children from this new neighborhood.  Home prices started at $11,490 with no down-payment for veterans.  Settlement costs were $10.  All street names in Somerset Park started with the letter “S.”  Unlike later sections, this neighborhood is spread out a bit and Levitt Parkway, Charleston Road, and Sunset Road cut through Somerset Park.  Please beware of muggles and rehide cache as found!

Congratulations to MDawg87 and jdawg87 for FTF and thanks for the favorite point! Also, kudos to santschick and sant74 as 2TF.
