Horace Hawes Fan Club Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Badwaterboy: I went out to check this one and it looks like Ol' Horace and his hiding place fell victim to the gardening crew. I'm going to retire Ol' Horace...He is now archived!

Geocache Description:

A cache located on the boundary of the City and County of San Francisco and the County of San Mateo.

This cache is dedicated to the late great State Assemblyman Horace Hawes (1813-1871) of San Francisco who sponsored the Consolidation Act of 1856. From 1850 to 1856, the City of San Francisco’s boundaries were a one-mile distance from Portsmouth Square in what is now Chinatown. San Francisco County extended all the way down the Peninsula to San Francisquito Creek which originally had been the boundary between the lands of Mission Dolores and Mission Santa Clara. Hawes’ Consolidation Act of 1856 combined the governments of the City of San Francisco and the County of San Francisco, created the County of San Mateo, and established the boundary at 37 degrees north, 42 minutes and 30 seconds which is the latitude of this cache. During certain times, this area is fraught with muggles...so please use stealth.
