Following site visits and many discussions with the ranger, we
have taken the decision to cancel the event this weekend.
We had planned for every eventually in the weather, or so we
thought. We had emergency plans for heavy rain, light snow and one
even for, if everything froze. But several feet of snow and ice on
the road, car park and the forest trails, has defeated us.
Since the snow came, we have been in discussions with the
rangers at Bee Craig’s. They are being ferried up to the
woods in a 4 x 4 and are having to use skis to get around. They are
also having to deal with the added danger of tree branches snapping
due to the weight of snow on them. So with safety utmost in our
minds we had to make the unhappy decision to postpone the
event.
We had hoped to move it to between Christmas and New Year, to
keep our festive tale going, but with the TV weather man now saying
we can expect temperatures like this until Christmas, we have
shelved that plan. We are now hoping to re-organise it all in the
New Year once we see an improvement in the weather and will run the
event, hopefully before the light nights return.
Just in case anyone is concerned, the kidnappers got cold and
wet hanging around trying to hide Santa’s sleigh in the woods
and Santa and the reindeer we’re able to rescue it, without
paying the ransom, when all the kidnappers popped to the pub for a
