Geocache Description:

Located above the beach in the jungle.

The beach and the village of Los Cerritos has lots to see.  You can access this cache from Cerritos or Pueblo Benito Emerald Bay but the main route is from the village of Los Cerritos.
This cache is placed to honor the memory of Gilberto Torres. Gilberto was born in Mazatlan and crewed on a sailing ship to Portland Oregon in 1902.  He became a dear friend of Whistle Smith and helped him grow to be an honorable man.On March 5, 2008, LK 11:9, and I agreed that I would adopt this cache as he would not be able to maintain it.

I visited this cache on 2/28/09 and brought it up to date.  I removed the old cache container and replaced it with a new one - see photo.  You are looking for a medium size cache that is fully stocked and has a new log book. This cache is easily accessed from Emerald Bay but the main access is from Los Cerritos.  The trailhead at Los Cerritos is located at N23 18.372, W106 29.356.  Walk past the large tire in the path about 150 feet, then turn left and stay on the improving trail.  When you meet the  new barb-wire fence follow the path in an easterly direction until you come to the cache area.  Don't cross the fence.   At the site the trail splits with a path going up to the top and a trail continuing along towards Emerald Bay.  The cache is located in the area between the two trails within ten feet of the trail intersections.
