This cache has been placed to remember the Wanoga Butte Lookout Tower that was recently torn down due to safety concerns. The views from the top are beautiful and you can see for miles.
Built in 1933, Wanoga Butte Lookout is another vintage L-4 hip-roof cab with catwalk atop a 30' pole tower located on the Deschutes National Forest in Central Oregon. The original ponderosa pine tower legs were replaced with tamarack poles in 1953. It was in used from 1933 until the early 1970's.
The road to the top is very rutted and 4wd is suggested and not recommended for low slung cars.
