Geocache Description:

The Dixie Remembered series has been placed as a tribute to our

dog Dixie who passed away on September 27th, 2013.

The series consists of thirteen caches. The first twelve re-present the twelve years of her life with us and the thirteenth represents the seventeen days she had to her thirteenth birthday.

She was a very special dog. She went geocaching with us on almost all of our first 200 cache finds. She always waited in the cache mobile for us.

You will be looking for plastic "snap" lock top containers well adorned with camouflage tape. Inside is a log and pencil. And, attached to the underside of each cache cover will be a picture of Dixie. The thirteenth cache is smaller than the others but still has a picture of Dixie.

Since this cache is about our dog and since we know that many fellow cachers have dogs or have lost dogs, we encourage you to mention the name of your DOG, living or deceased in your log entry. The cache will serve as a tribute to not only Dixie, but for all our dogs.

We chose the Buckhorn State Park for our cache locations. This is a beautiful park and much of it is unspoiled by development. It is in this undeveloped area of the park that we placed these caches. It does boast water access to Wisconsin’s fourth largest lake, The Castle Rock flowage on the Wisconsin River. It also has campgrounds with showers and several hiking trails. An accessible cabin is also available. Wildlife is abundant and can be seen in all areas of the park.

There is hunting allowed in areas of the park, including this area, so caution must be used during the hunting seasons.

Until the snow gets over 5" or so, the caches should be accessible. We placed them in areas where there would be a very minimum of "bushwacking". Most are placed very near to a fire road or are in an area of "plantation" pines. This is quite easy to walk through for all but the smallest children. The distances are not excessive, but families with smaller children may choose to take more than one day on the cache trail.

WDNR Geocache Notification Form 2500-118 has been submitted to and approved by Heather Wolf, Property Manager at Buckhorn State Park. Please note that any geocache placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources managed lands requires permission by means of this notification form. If you intend to place a cache on WDNR managed lands, please print out the paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit to the respective land manager.
