This cache is part of the “DCNR - Legacy of Conservation” Geocaching Trail (see “Related Web Page” link above). Collect all the Pennsylvania Legacy of Conservation cards – one from each of the 30 caches in the trail – and show them all at one of the validation centers to receive a Legacy of Conservation geocoin (non-trackable). This geotrail will be archived on June 30, 2013.
Cherry Springs State Park is nearly as remote and wild today as it was two centuries ago. Its dark skies make it a haven for astronomers. Named for the large stands of black cherry trees in the park, the 48-acre state park is surrounded by the 262,000-acre Susquehannock State Forest. Okay, on to the cache: You will find yourself walking across a place that is unsurpassed for viewing the night sky – it having the darkest night skies in the eastern U.S. Unless you are night-caching, you will just have to come back when the sun goes down. Practice sustainable caching and try not to leave a trail to the cache (don't follow any paths).
