Geocache Description:

The first stages of this cache is located in the Hawthorn Hollow Arboretum 880 Green Bay Rd. Please be respectful. This is not a park or playground. This cache was placed by permission of Hawthorn Hollow, and will be removed if it is found to be destructive. This is a great place for small children, since the trails are level, short and it is easy to get back to your car.

DO NOT travel off trail.
No bushwhacking is required.
DO NOT collect plant material.
No smoking, food, or beverages.
No pets.
No sports or games, such as joggings, skiing, biking, ballgames.
Children must be supervised at all times.

Hours: March 1-October 31 8am-5pm
November 1-December 23 8am-4pm

CLOSED MONDAYS
CLOSED December 24-March 1

Admission is free. Donations are greatly appreciated. This is one of Kenosha’s lesser-known jewels-I seldom see more than 1 or 2 cars in the parking lot at any one time. Children particularly enjoy the South Hollow Trail. Hawthorn Hollow is occasionally rented out to private parties, or in use for special events. Please respect privacy as needed during these times.

THIS CACHE IS NOT AVAILABLE DURING THE MONTHS OF DEC-MAR when the arboretum is closed.

Hawthorn Hollow was established in 1988 to help preserve, maintain and further improve Hawthorn Hollow. The original property was purchased and preserved by the Teuscher sisters in 1935. They deeded the property to the Hyslop Foundation in 1967. The Hyslop Foundation subsequently moved three historic buildings to the site: the first two Pike River School Houses, and the first Somers Town Hall.

Class is in session.
Did you pick up your map at the registration table? Now please behave, or I’ll have to get out the ruler!

1) Add the year the Somers town hall was built to the year the first Pike River schoolhouse was built.

Add this number to N 42 34.972 + _ _ _ _ (ignore the decimal point).

2) Add the year Tommy died to the year that Tajsha died.

Add this number to W 87 48.214 + _ _ _ _ (ignore the decimal point).

This information is NOT located at the same coordinates. You have to DO YOUR HOMEWORK and figure it out. If you are stuck, see the hints. They are tiered so you can determine your own level of difficulty!

Okay, now you are ready to earn your gold star! Go back to your car and drive across the street. Park at N 42 38.694 W 87 51.765. The final cache is located a short walk down the Parkside CC trail, between the trail and the road. It is a 2L clear tuperware with a bright yellow lid. Unlike the Hawthorn Hollow portion, the final is available year round, so you can stop now and come back later. NOTE: HINTS COORDINATES UPDATED 11/23/05
