Located in Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. Paved pathways all the way to the cache. Should be a fairly easy find for anyone with a little experience.

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is a beautiful oasis in suburban Fairfax County. It is open year-round and features 3.5 miles of paved trail and 1.5 miles of unpaved nature trails. There is a nominal entrance fee of $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. Please refer to the park website for opening hours; they vary throughout the year.

The cache is hidden towards the back of the park, near #12 on the park map (which you can pick up at the ticket window). It should be fairly easy to find, especially if you are familiar with caching.

The container is a translucent Rubbermaid-type, about 4" in diameter and 2.5" tall opaque green container, thanks to replacement by an unknown benefactor! It does not have a pen, please bring your own! Initial contents include a humorous FTF prize, $2 WG bill, and my Seward's Folly TB. No pen in the cache so please bring your own!
Muggle count is high during the spring and summer.

Letterboxers take note: Oh Deer! is also in Meadowlark, so you may want to stop by!

Construction Update, 26 June 2007: Access to Beulah Road is blocked from downtown Vienna. To get to the park, proceed north on Route 123 and take the exit for Route 7 west. In less than three miles you will see the other end of Beulah Road, turn left here and the park is two miles down on your right.

The last person to find the cache left the decon container wide open. The recent rains almost filled the container with water. Needless to say, the log is completely soaked. I emptied the container of water and threw away all the wet plastic bags, repacking everything else inside, and closed the container securely. The cache really needs to be dried out, and the log needs to be replaced.

TFTC. When I read the logs about how beautiful the park is, I didn't realize it is THAT beautiful. It is a little oasis in the middle of DC suburbia. Definitely worth the entrance fee. They even have little children's nature backpacks to borrow with lots of info and magnifying glass, etc. Saw a Blue Heron while we were there. Left a Geocoin, Thank you so much for an enjoyable morning.

A great place to walk around; as runfairfax mentioned, had only been here once before for a wedding (rest in peace, Jack). An unusual and relaxing place. The paths meander a bit - that's by design. The straightest route isn't always the best.

[view this log]
March 8 by runfairfax (58 found)
Found with sitfairfax. A very quick and easy find, indeed. Even after living in the area for nine years, I've only been in this park once before - for the wedding of the late, local political legend Jack Herrity (who was a good friend and a volunteer for a local rail-to-trail that is near and dear to my heart).

Thanks for the excuse to take a nice, peaceful walk about. It was surprisingly sparse, despite the photo show going on and the warm weather. I think a lot of people forgot to set the clock forward.

One thing I like about this new (to me) geocaching habit is that it makes me take another look at some fascinating local places. I usually run right through places or bike right by them - and I usually don't look at them. This searching for the little camoflauged thingie someone has hidden makes me stop and look at them.

And I gree with the prior commenter about the fencing. WOW! Can deer jump *that* high? Never thought about it. I know they can leap pretty hight, but, I dunno... So now I'm picturing huge, mutant Tyranodeerus rex bred in Meadowlark's [secret, government ;-)] "Experimental Garden" leaping over that thing! Was that a deer fence - or was it a something else [X-Files kinda] fence?

Hmmm. ;-)

TFTC!

Boy, that is one tall deer fence around the place to keep the deer out. Who would think a deer could jump 15' straight up. Grabbed the TB and will move it to the Northwest. TFTC

This is the last traditional Vienna cache I had left, so was saving it for a family outing. Last afternoon of the long weekend was perfect for it. What a great place! We didn't know exactly what to expect and were blown away with the variety of flora and well-maintained grounds. Even the 2 and 5-yr olds were rapt; the turtles and fish at the pond were really something. I see many picnics here in the future.

Cache is in good shape, easily found and affording a comfortable spot to sit and peruse the contents. No poison ivy here! We took the Maine picture bead, a ghost sticker, and a penny. Left a water-soaker ball and a tiger. Thanks for taking us here, it was a memorable outing.

745 What a beautiful and peaceful place. I took advantage of a sunny and 65 degree February day to do this cache. The cache is straight forward but the hike to it is spectacular. I have been here when all the flowers are in bloom but in winter it has a whole other feeling. The warm sunny temperatures gives one a new view while giving the feeling of early spring. There is much to see. The fees go in effect on March 1st so get in on a bargin free entry before then.

Wow, what a wonderful park! I've been wanting to come here for a long time, but today's incredible weather (and a need to get our 18-month-old son out and running about) finally convinced us to make the trip. Unfortunately, one of the lakes was drained, but another one had plenty of geese, ducks, and massive catfish to keep him (and us) occupied.

Ran into another caching family right at ground zero, and we all looked together for a bit. Finally spotted it from a few feet away, but let the other folks make the find on their own.

Took the diabetes travel bug -- I'll get that to another cache real soon.

Thanks for the cache!

As WT? said, a most excellent day for geocaching . . . or just about anything else outdoors. My first time visiting the gardens. Not quite a rival to Longwood Gardens, but nevertheless quite nice; I definitely will return.

Wonderful park including the meadow near the cache. We walked along many of the paths of the park. There is a little food dispenser that will provide for a quarter, a small amount of fish and turtle food for the catfish, perch, and turtles in the lake that has the large wooden gazebo over the water. We fed the BIG catfish and OLD turtles. A lovely day.

We left Dilbert the butterfly travel bug. Took two other travel bugs. Cache in good shape.

Found this one easily after running out of time last week. Finally dropped off some of the bugs I've had for a few weeks (kind of hard to drop them off at virtual caches).

Cache was in good repair, but was out on the ground, and no writing device within the cache (could not sign log, but the bugs are there =)). Container was pretty full with the addition of the two bugs.

Well, this is interesting. I had downloaded the description of the cache some time ago. Today I went to Meadowlark Gardens to see the cherry blossoms and the daffodils and my GPS unit told me that there was a cache there. So, while my kid was busy running around I decided to look for it. And find it I did. Except I found the clear Rubbermaid type cache, not the decon container. I didn't even realize that I "should" have been looking for a decon container. So it looks like there are two caches out there.
