10:10:10 10/10/10 TEN
This event has been put together to celebrate the 10th of
October 2010 (10/10/10). The race will start at 10:10:10 am (10
seconds past 10:10), during the TENth year of Geocaching!
WHERE: The published coordinates: Richmond's Washbourne
Gardens Rotunda.
WHEN: From 10am, 10 October 2010 (don't be late - 9:50
would be smart)
WHAT: A GPS race themed around 10 / TEN, followed by a
BYO lunch.
BRING: Charged GPS, car, pen, and a charged digital
camera or charged camera phone. (Bring lunch and perhaps something
to sit on)
UNTIL: The race end time is 12 noon. Winner will be
announced close to 12:30pm so even if you stay for lunch you still
have the afternoon open for other things... like caching!
The EVENT will start at 10 am at the Washbourne Gardens Rotunda
in Richmond - BE EARLY!
Race start: 10:10:10 am - S*H*A*R*P !!! (Instructions handed out
at 10:00)
There will be a $10 note for the winner of the race (sorry
dafran, not $100), and ten consolation prizes (Donations of prizes
or money prior to race day invited - please email us about your
contribution so we can arrange to collect it before the event.
Let's keep it small and sensible).
Please consider joining us for lunch after the race as the
social part of these events is what it is really about.
THE GPS RACE: You will need to visit a number of locations
related to the number 10 in some way. Details will be provided on
the day - just before the race starts. It will be a time limited
race to see who can complete the most locations within the allotted
time. You will need to take a photo at each location as proof of
your visit. (Let me know if you want to compete but do not have a
digital camera or camera phone - a few loan units are available).
Individuals and teams can compete against each other - there should
not be much benefit to having more people. In fact, it may slow you
down! Families will receive 2 bonus points for every child aged 6
and under - we want to ensure families can have fun and will have a
fair chance of winning the race. There will be other ways to earn
bonus points. The instructions, maps and bonus tasks will be
outlined at 10 am sharp when you will receive your race materials.
The emphasis will be to have FUN while at the same time enjoying
the genuine opportunity to win!
IT'S A SOCIAL EVENT TOO Put names and faces to geocaching names
- meet the people behind the names you've seen on log sheets and
cache pages. Listen to and share your war stories and get tips and
tricks from the oldies - sorry, old hands :) Most of all, have fun!
At this stage there is no BBQ planned, but if someone wants to
volunteer to bring one, please let us know and we'll update the
cache page.
NOTE: There will be no coin/travel bug swap tables set up. Do
not log trackables into this event unless you expect to swap them
directly with people or take them back again.
Credit goes to Auckland's funkymunkyzone for starting the ball
rolling on the NZ "TEN" events. We take the blame for taking the
concept to the point of absurdity however!
See you all there!

UPDATE: 7 SEP 10
Stretch0 and nightowlnz have offered to take anyone just
starting out with Geocaching for a bit of a geocaching tutorial.
They won't do the race, but they will go find a few caches. A great
opportunity for new geocachers to be shown what to do without the
pressure of a race. Interested? Then
click here and send Colin and Sharon / stretch0 and nightowlnz
a note. What a great initiative. Thanks team!
