Geocache Description:

A simple traditional cache in what was once Mountain Township

Mountain Township was a rural farming township with a rich history. It was comprised of farmland and 4 villages, Mountain, South Mountan, Inkerman and Hallville. Thanks to the Ontario government's massive push for almalgamation of municipalities, it ceased to exist on January 1, 1998, as it became part of North Dundas Township. 4 days later, the area was hit with a massive ice storm. Authorities still claim that was a coincidence...

With a name like Mountain, the relative flatness of the township is often the butt of jokes. The township was not named for any geological feature, but in fact was named after the Right Reverend Jacob Mountain (1750 - 1825), the first Protestant Bishop of Quebec.

As you will see by the placement of the stones, this cache is placed in a cemetery that has been moved. I am not sure where it was previously, but it's proximity to the South Nation River may have been to blame. Though I'm not certain, Baldwin's Bridge may have been named after W.H. Baldwin who owned a hotel in nearby South Mountain.
