It's no secret that the Winchester repeating rifle was often used to kill people. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thousands of individuals found themselves on the wrong end of the legendary firearm. Now the ghosts of the dearly departed have begun to haunt the heiress to the Winchester fortune.

Newly-widowed Sarah Winchester is spooked. Her dreams are filled with images of gunshot victims seeking vengance. The spirits moan, wail, and ask "why?". To make things right, a psychic has advised the widow to build a summer cottage in Riverside. Furthermore, the instructions from the "great beyond" are to keep building, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With all that construction going on, there's bound to be some rather unusual features.

The entrance to the cottage is nearby.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. In order to find it, you'll need to complete a Wherigo cartridge of the same name. Click here to go to the cartridge page on the Wherigo.com site. Be sure to bring a GPS unit with you (and not just a PocketPC/Bluetooth combo) when you go. Have fun, but watch your step as you explore the Winchester Mystery Cottage.

"A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers."--J.M. Barrie

Enjoyed this one. Out with Losel2 today to work off most of the primary TOT6 caches. Now done with all west of the dog park. A new adventure awaits. TFTC-SL

Day two for me on the TOT6. This was a very interesting cache to find. I missed out on the Wherigo cache last year due to cache being muggled. Anyway, it wasn't where I thought it should be. Thanks for the efforts for these types of caches. Signed log, took TB.

During a morning terrorizing on the trail, I made JJG10101 promise not to show off the Wherigo without me. Instead he handed me his GPS! After a brief tutorial, I collected a large group of intrepid ghost hunters (BikeNfind, mdawaffe, Larry the pool guy, boysue, Team Perks, EMC of Northridge, DopeyDuck, Crazy Teacher, obtuse, OLdweeb, MissAmerica1, goofyguy24, and mamaloo), and we set off into the sunset. Rooms explored, suspects interviewed, tasks completed, and no, it wasn't Miss Scarlet with the Candlestick. And an excellent cache to leave our mark at the end! Thanks, JJG10101, for adding to our TOT fun, and for letting us borrow the necessary equipment. Do you think the Winchester Mystery House would hire me a guide?
