CITO is what Groundspeak calls a trash pickup but we're
going to call this one a CIGO. (Cache in
Golfball Out)
Join us on Sunday Morning at 9:00
AM at the posted coordinates. We will start this adventure in
the front entrance parking lot. At 9:15 we will leave for a
nice short 0.89 mile hike down along the East fence line to where
we will begin picking up Golf Balls.
N26° 59.789 W080° 05.769 is where
we will begin. It happens that there is a very exclusive
country club at the south east corner of the park. They have
located their driving range along that border and as such lose
quite a few balls over the fence.
It took me about 45 minutes to hike
both ways and I don't think it will take more than an hour to pick
up most of the balls. There are also a few caches that
we will be close to along the way. Several other shorter
routes were suggested when I was planning this but they all
involved bush whacking through some sensitive areas. One or
two people might not have an impact, but if we have thirty cachers
going through the areas it would have made a mess. After all
we want to help make the park better.
To make the hike down a little more
interesting, I've planted a golf ball about halfway down the
path. I've designated this as the "First to Find" ball. Whoever locates it
will be able to claim FTF on this cache. If the ball is not
located, I'll figure something else out at the event.
To log this cache you must sign the
log book that I will have. To sign the log you must show me
that you have picked up at least one golf ball. Anyone
logging the event that has not signed the log will be
removed.
So, "drive" up to the the front lot and
"putt" on over, "hook" up with us and "slice" into this clean-up project.
"Tee up" and score a
"hole in one" for the
park. There is a good chance that you will see at least
one "birdie" along the way and
maybe even an "eagle". "Duffers" will be left behind :-D.
Remember to bring along something
to carry the balls back in, a canvas bag, backpack or bucket, even
a pair of pants with lots of pockets will
work.
The Florida Geocaching Association
has donated a newly released FGA coin that will be issued to the
one finding the FTF ball. This is a really nice coin!
Thanks a bunch FGA!
