The Elgar Enigma series celebrates the 150th anniversary of
Elgar's birth, the countryside that so inspired him and his first
widely recognised work, Variations on an Original Theme, more
commonly known as The Enigma Variations.
Variation VII (Presto) TROYTE was dedicated to Arthur Troyte
Griffiths, an architect, who attempted to play the piano, but was
apparently not very good. The variation mimics his enthusiastic
incompetence.

The location of the cache is Great Malvern in view of the Abbey
Gate where Arthur Troyte Griffiths's office was once situated
before becoming the local museum. At the cache site you will also
be next to a life-size statue of Elgar and the Enigma Fountain. The
location can be muggle rich so be descrete. There is a seat for you
to sit while signing the log. You will need your own pen
(preferably a biro); please only write the date and your name.
Great Malvern was also the location where Elgar met his future
wife, Caroline Alice Roberts in 1886. To suppliment his income he
offered private lessons and rented Cecilia Hall for the purpose.
The hall is further down Church Street with the door in the middle
of the Oxfam shop before Grange Road.
