Goat Creek Pitt Traditional Cache
Rock Rabbit: It has come to my attention that this cache is held in place by a large screw into a live tree. http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=304#damage Sorry, but this damages the tree and the cache has to be archived

This the first in a series of Goat Creek caches by _k1_ and Bit Bucket.
This cache will bring you to what was once an old homestead occupied back in the early 1900's and as late as the 1940's. Only two barely standing buildings remain and they are not the original structures.
-- NOTE: Cache extraction should be carefully done, no need to force any part of the cache or it's hidey in any way. Overall it is somewhat fragile.
This is one of the early homestead areas here in the North Methow. From what we've been able to learn several of the last residents were here up to the mid 1940's.
The last homesteader was Jake Grazen and and his friend Guy Pitt later on. Guy was famous for his home brew during Prohibition. The old-timers who recalled visiting Guy's places said he would haul up bottles from his well, where the beer was kept cool, and everybody would sit under the willow tree enjoying the brew.
The willow tree is gone, the well covered over and the current buildings are not worth entering. The land is now in the hands of the Forest Service. We'd like to learn more so please put something in a log and we will try to get the history correct if not expanded.
Parking within 30 feet of the cache and this cache will be available year round if you don't mind walking through a bit of snow.
REMINDER: the logs are give-aways, don't read them unless you wish to skip straight to the cache...
