A cache at lookout point in Villa
Montalvo County Park in Saratoga.
This park has some beautiful trails, with mostly moderate
slopes, that will take you through some shady redwoods and over
small streams. While you are here you can enjoy the art exhibits
and installations, and well maintained gardens.
The park opens at 8am on weekdays (9am weekends) and closes at
5pm. There is also a little known trailhead on the south side, off
of Norton Rd.
The cache is an ammo box, placed off-trail about 10'. You may
have to scramble through the bushes, but it is not densely
overgrown and there was no poison oak at the time of placement.
The coordinates were averaged based on 100 readings, but signals
are hard to get in this spot. As you arrive, look to the right for
the way in (the hide is not meant to be hard, just hidden from
muggles).
Edit 8-30-04: I replaced the cache today and increased the
difficulty and terrain ratings a bit based on feedback. The easiest
route in is via the N. Orchard trail from Norton road then to the
Overlook trail, 2 star, though a bit longer. The Overlook trail
from the Art center is shorter but is 3 star.
Update 12-6-6: The cache resurfaced after a long absence,
apparently having been maintained nearby by muggles... It has been
moved back to near its original spot, but not as evil. Feel free to
post revised coords as the original coords were taken with an eTrex
while I was a newbie.
