Geocache Description:

A treasure chest hidden near Anthony Gap at the entrance to old west mining country.

This cache is hidden at the start of a hiking trail up to old mining operations. A great place for those wishing to loot for treasure but cannot make the uphill hike to the mines. The rolling hills and mountains you see all around you here were beacons for miners of the day. If you could hike this range you would see 100's of small mining operations or exploratory mines all over this range. Several miles to the north you can visit the sites of the old Modoc or Torpedo mines where several tons of gold and silver were extracted. You may even bump into the legendary Lost Padre mine which to this day has never been found. This particular area extracted flourite and quartzite.

Cache is located on Bureau of Land Management property and is open to the pubic. BLM requests you close the wire gate behind you when visiting. The road to the cache should be attempted by sturdy vehicles only. From the main road the hike is a little less than a mile and isn't too bad. Just follow the washed out dirt road. As always, be careful of pokey and bitey things. From the cache spot you can hike uphill to an old strip mining operation.
