Geocache Description:

HELP CLEAN UP PRESQUE ISLE

This cache is a little different in that there are no trade items, so please don’t leave anything. It’s also much easier than anything else I’ve put out but I wanted people without a GPS to be able to find it, and it’s for a good cause so I’ll let it slide.

MAKE SURE YOU BRING A CAMERA!!!! (if you don’t have one or forget it I’ve provided one but then you have to return it)

The cache contains a logbook and a bunch of garbage bags. In order to “complete the cache” and have it count as a find you must collect at least 1 bag of trash from the park.

LET’S HELP CLEAN UP THE PARK AND GIVE CACHERS A GOOD NAME

If you don’t have a GPS follow these directions to get to the cache:

The cache is located on the Canoe Portage Trail (maps are available at the park office). From the trailhead the cache is approx 450-500 ft down the trail on the left hand side.

1) Start from the trailhead (right beside the multipurpose trail) and keep walking until the Canoe Portage trail intersects with another trail (the Duck Pond Trail). The cache is about 75 paces or 200ft away.

2) Keep walking but be on the lookout for a dead hollow tree trunk on the side of the trail (it’s about 8ft tall and grayish, it’s pretty tough to miss) as soon as you can see this tree immediately look left. You should be very close to the cache.

3) Look for a little “clearing” (actually just less weeds then everywhere else) on the left that you can walk into, you should see a pile of branches and tree trunks approx 10 feet off the trail. That’s where the cache is hidden.

4) If your right in front of the tall hollow dead tree trunk (that I mentioned in #2) you went to far. The cache is about 45 paces or approx 125 ft before that tree trunk.

Ok so you’ve found the cache. Now all you have to do is collect some trash. The bags are pretty large and they need to be full to count. When you log please include the number of bags you collected. Also YOU NEED to take a picture of your haul and post it in the log (or email it to me) (that’s why you need a camera). Like I said for every bag of trash collected you’ll get 1 entry.

Unfortunately Presque Isle gets it’s share of inconsiderate visitors. So finding trash should be no problem. There shouldn’t be much around the vicinity of the cache but there’s plenty of places to look. Walking the trails is always a good idea (heck you could hit some of the other caches while your at it), also I’ve noticed that the shoreline tends to be filled with trash (both on the beach side [I picked up a bunch on right along the water on beach six the day I placed this] and the bay side). Anywhere there is large amounts of people (pavilions, picnic tables, the monument, people fishing, the tables on the beaches, etc.) tends to get pretty bad. As does the end of the monument. If you still can’t find enough (means were doing a great job) ask at the Ranger Station or come back another day.

You may want to bring along gloves as the trash along the shoreline is usually wet and pretty funky. Also bug spray’s a good idea.
