Tryon Creek State Natural Area requires that visitors stay on
designated trails, so all geocaches are located within five feet of
an existing trail. Only a limited number of geocaches may be active
in Tryon Creek State Natural Area at any time and geocache
placement is limited to designated areas. Please call 503-636-9886
x222 to obtain permission from park staff before placing a
geocache.
This cache is
located near Tryon Creek's Red Fox trailhead. Tryon Creek is open
from 7:00 am to dusk. Heavy tree cover so GPSr may bounce
around.
Tryon Creek
State Natural Area is a 641-acre natural day-use area located
within the city limits of Portland. It is the state's only state
park within a major metropolitan area. The park has 8 miles of
hiking trails, 3.5 miles of horse trails and 3 miles of bicycle
trails. Tryon Creek Canyon was logged in the 1880s by the Oregon
Iron Co. to provide fuel for the iron smelter in Lake Oswego. The
forest has naturally regrown into a mixed stand of red alder,
douglas fir, bigleaf maple, and western redcedar. For more
