This is #13 in my Disappearing RR Blues series of caches that highlight abandoned NW Oregon railroad right-of-ways or structures. This one is in Gladstone, Oregon
Welcome to Gladstone, Oregon. In the 1890's electric railway service opened in Gladstone running down Portland Street. It connected Downtown Portland and Oregon City. Sadly the only thing left is the bridge over the Clackamas river.
The Bridge was opened in 1893. Passenger service ended in 1958. Freight service ended in 1968 due to concerns of the Bridge's structural intergity, plus the Papermill in Oregon City was better served by the Southern Pacific (Now Union Pacific) Railroad.
The Bridge is a Warren Truss Bridge. The main span is 260 Feet, Total length 290 feet. The decking on the bridge is gone, and for safety reasons one should not try to access the bridge. Maybe someday they will restore it for pedestrian/bicycle use.
For the FTF there is $2 bill. BYOP!
