This simple puzzle cache will lead you to a final that is a traditional container, in a specially crafted hiding spot. The Town welcomes geocachers and invites you to visit the Chamber of Commerce - Elkton Alliance for history and tourist information. The Alliance is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 to 4:30 but information is available outside of the building. You do not need to enter the building to find any part of this cache.

Begin your search at the posted coordinates which will lead you to an informational sign with a picture of a schooner. Read the sign and find the year of the schooner.
Let the digit in the year of the schooner = ABCD

Replace the letters to find the final cache coordinates: N 39 36.4B5 W075 49.79D
The final is located nearby. Please no night caching! Don't forget to record the code word and post a picture at the location if you wish to earn the new MML geocoin.

Elkton was once known for its popularity as a place for eloping couples to go to marry, until 1938 when a state law was passed which required a 48-hour waiting period. The town still maintains several wedding chapels, including the Main Street Chapel where Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller were married.

Elkton is also remembered for the terrible tragedy of the crash of Pan Am Flight 214 in 1963. This plane was struck by lightning over Elkton, killing all 81 people on board.

Elkton is located on the colonial highway of America. Our forefathers navigated its waterways and traveled its roads when heading north to Philadelphia, or south to Virginia. Once known as Head of Elk, named by Captain John Smith, it sits at the northern headwaters of Chesapeake Bay. Elkton played a significant role in both the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. Today, many of the town's beautiful colonial structures remain, yet they're surrounded by buildings that reflect an active business community. Office buildings, courthouses, a hospital, and retail establishments share space with history in Elkton, which has been the County Seat since 1787.

The Town of Elkton thanks you for visiting!
