This puzzle marks the holiday we know as Festivus! Festivus is
celebrated each year on December 23rd, but many people celebrate it
at other times, often in early December. Its slogan is "A Festivus
for the rest of us!" An aluminum pole is generally used in lieu of
a Christmas tree or other holiday decoration. Those attending
participate in the "Airing of Grievances" which is an opportunity
for all to vent their hostilities toward each other, and after a
Festivus dinner, The Feats of Strength are performed.
Traditionally, Festivus is not over until the head of the household
is wrestled to the floor and "pinned."
Why is this cache named Spaghetti & Meatballs, if it
commemorates Festivus? Well, it could be because one of the major
components of Festivus is the traditional dinner. The Festivus
dinner menu is flexible, but it should be filling non-holiday
comfort food (no turkey, duck, goose or ham). The traditional
Festivus dinner is meatloaf or spaghetti in red sauce. (Presumably,
an entree in a red sauce is more festive.)
As you sit in your living room around a warm fire, gazing
peacefully at your Festivus pole while digesting your Spaghetti or
Meatloaf and preparing to wrestle the old man to the ground,
consider the airing of our grievances this year. . . . We won't
mention which ones were Snake's and which were Rooster's . . .
