Geocache Description:

Located in the Poocher Swamp Game Reserve.

Poocher Swamp is an amazing place to visit in the dry... I'd love to see it in the wet!

This game reserve is part of the Tatiara Creek watercourse, and it features a natural red gum wetland that was altered in the 1950's. Embankments were built to prevent a portion of surface water draining into the runaway holes and encourage ducks for hunting in duck season. The semi-wetland area now houses a wide range of waterbirds and other birdlife.

The runaway holes can only be seen when the swamp is dry. As the water level goes down, these holes can empty the swamp in less than three weeks. The runaway holes are massive and should be visited with care as their steep loose sides may be hazardous to children and adults alike.

A feature of the park is the hollow 'Pinkies Tree', which was used as a shelter by local aboriginal groups.

Please ensure that the cache is well hidden when leaving. I hope you enjoy this amazing place.
