Geocache Description:

This multi will take you through two parks in Stevens Point-the Schmeeckle Reserve and Iverson Park.

“Some day this area will serve as an island of green in the city of Stevens Point.”-Fred J. Schmeeckle (1985).

This cache will take you through the Schmeeckle Reserve and another island of green in the city, Jules Iverson Memorial Park. The information you will need for the final cache's coordinates will be gained on a trip through part of Schmeeckle. This trip will start and end at the same point. Each letter will correspond to a number in the coordinates for the cache with the goodies, an ammo-can in Iverson Park.

There are maps available near the parking lot, but the supply may be out. There are maps posted at every intersection in the reserve, so it's not absolutely necessary to have a paper copy, but it would come in handy. A PDF form is available at http://www.uwsp/edu/cnr/schmeeckle/Map/map.htm
Park in the Schmeeckle Reserve lot at N44.32.452 W089.33.802. The visitor center is open 8-5 every day except holidays. There's a gift shop, museum and the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame.

***It is extremely important to respect this reserve by staying on the marked trails. Also, the reserve closes at dusk.***

A: How many deer are on the Browse Shop sign in the gazebo near the parking lot?

Head left on the Trail of Reflections. Mills offers one of the first reflection on the trail.

B: How many letters are in Mills’ first name?
C: How many words are in this quotation? Use the first digit of this number for C.

Keep going until the intersection. Turn left on the Frog Chorus Trail.

D: At the intersection of the Frog Chorus and Sedge Meadow Trails, how many tenths of a mile away is Lake Joanis?

Turn left on Sedge Meadow Trail, and then turn left on the Lake Loop Trail. You will come to the intersection of Plank Trail.

E: How many tenths of a mile long is the Plank Trail?

There is a narrow, vertical sign in front of the planks with two words on it.

F: How many letters are in the first word?
G: How many letters are in the second word?

Don’t follow the Plank Trail, instead continue on Lake Loop Trail until you reach the Moses Creek Trail intersection.

H: How many tenths of a mile long is Moses Creek Trail?
I: From this intersection, how many tenths of a mile are you from the Visitor Center? (Use the sign.)

Follow Moses Creek Trail until you reach the Green Circle Trail. Turn left and head to Berard Oaks.

J: What is the last number in the year the Berard Oaks were given to Schmeeckle Reserve?

Continue on the Green Circle Trail until you reach the other end of Plank Trail.

K: How many tenths of a mile are you from Berard Oaks at this intersection?

The Green Circle Trail will take you back to the parking lot, but before taking the trail back to your starting point (when you are nearly there; you will see the lot) take a left and check out the compost demonstrations. You need one more piece of information from one of the wooden signs in the center. There is a list of materials that yield nitrogen. The first item is a two-word phrase; the first word is green.

L: How many letters are in the second word?

Now you have the information you need to get the cache in Iverson Park. Fill the letters into this formula:

North BH. AE. CJL West 089. KF. DIG

There are a few nearby caches that are worth checking out if you have the time. Don't Go Meekly Through Schmeeckle (GCQJBX) is pretty close to the Reserve. Iverson Park Wet Foot 1 and 2 (GCFDB7) is a great two-part multi nearby in Iverson.
