Geocache Description:

This is a great walk in the woods that ends with a quarter mile bushwhack to an awesome view of a farm nestled in the hills. Park at the same location as for Colcord Pond View (N 43.51.423 W 70.57.938) (Where Colcord Pond Road makes a sharp bend to the right.) Or, try from the north off of Phen Hill Rd. and Old County Rd.

From Colcord Pond Rd. the round trip hike is a good 5.5 miles. From the north will be shorter (but a longer drive for me, so I haven't parked there.) In either case, there is a logging road heading east and uphill at N 43.53.169 W 70.57.524. Take this until it “ends” near a stone wall. Your GPS should claim that the cache is about 0.25 mile away.

Here is where you start to bushwhack. The cache is at the summit but not quite at the view. The clue is quite explicit, so only use it as a last resort. The cache is an ammo box and starts out with some sage smudges, bubbles, a couple of pins, a frog key chain, a little doggy, a Wayne Gretsky hockey puck (from a Canadian cache!), an art stamp and a Shrek watch.

After checking out the booty, head east through the juniper looking for a clear view south. You will be able to sit and soak in the serenity. Pine Hill juts up to your left, a bit over your left shoulder is Burnt Meadow Mountain. Beyond the farm and to its right is the cut summit of Devil’s Den.
