This cache is one of a series around Loch Ken which provides
either a pleasant circular drive or cycle around the loch. You
might like to consider the
Loch Ken Circular (multi-cache) if you are
doing the series of six. This cache is one of the multi-cache
stages.
This cache has been relocated to the Upper Viewpoint about 800
metres walk along a clearly defined waymarked trail from the car
parking area. The viewpoint with panoramic views of Loch Ken is an
ideal vantage point to spot Red Kite. The nearby
Secret Cages are well worth building
sufficient time into your day to visit. See the
Red
Kite Trail website for detailed information about the
successful red kite reintroduction programme. Indeed as you
travel around the loch you should look out for red kites or
visit one of the other trail locations.
The cache is a small airtight container with sufficient room for
TBs and swaps. Once you reach the viewpoint remember to allow your
GPS to settle for a time as the signal can be affected by tree
cover.
To find the car park you should follow the well signposted
(Forestry Commission) entrance and leave the A762 at N55°01.837'
W004°06.596' and continue along the forest road to the parking
area. Follow the path signposted 'Upper Viewpoint 800m'. It is more
open around the viewpoint and you should receive a good GPSr
signal.
