The Madonna of the Trail #12 is a memorial statue dedicated to "Pioneer Mothers of the Covered Wagon Days". This statue commemorates the trail, trod by the Padres in Spanish days, and later became known as the American Post Road.
It is the 12th statue in a series of 12 erected in the 1920's by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Old Trails Association. Each of the 12 was placed along the National Old Trails Highway (Route 40).
For verification that you found this cache you must do one of two things:
1) post a picture of yourself and/or your GPSr with the statue
2) send me an email that specifies the year the time capsule will be opened.
For those who collect certificates of accomplishment, I have attached one. The password (carved into the statue) is the abbreviation preceding the word MEMORIAL, case sensitive and without the dots.

Thanks go to Wsmith, who researched the monuments. Our goal is to create a virtual cache for each of the 12 monuments.
Thanks also to Webfoot, who helped me collect information for this monument so I could set up the cache.
