Backwoods Cachers welcomes you to Lake Monticello Reservoir swimming & picnic area for our backwoods version of a meet & greet & swim event.
We will be getting together to hopefully bring out some of our new members as well as those that have been around from the beginning to talk caching, eat some good food and of course get in the water for some swimming time.
We will provide hot dogs and brats as well as condiments and cold water. Please indicate how many will be attending in your will attend log so we know just how much food will be needed. We don’t want anyone to leave hungry.
If you would like to bring anything else to share please indicate that in your log as well, that way everyone knows what is already being brought. We don’t want to end up with a bunch of the same items and no variety.

****Due to the overwhelming lack of interest, the eating part of this event will now change to a Bring your own picnic style lunch. This means there will not be anything provided. If you want to eat it then you need to bring it with you.****
There is plenty of free parking and restrooms available. There is a swimming area that does not have a lifeguard on duty. If you’re not into swimming then bring your fishing gear and get in some relaxing fishing time. Remember you must have a valid fishing license issued by SCDNR in order to fish here. You can also bring your non gas powered water vessel for this part of the reservoir and enjoy the peace and quiet at any part of this 300 acre reservoir.
As this event is during the month of August, you will earn the Socializer Souvenir which is part of The 7 Souvenirs of August when you post your attended log as well as another smiley to add to your collection.
There is also the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station Nature Trail. It is a trail that includes Benches, wood duck boxes, blue bird boxes and plant identification markers all along its 1.5 mile length.
This event just like all Backwoods Cachers events is open to all cachers and non cachers alike, so come and bring your friends and family to enjoy a great time at the reservoir with Backwoods Cachers.
The event will officially start at 11am and go until 1pm, but anyone is welcome to stay as long as you like and enjoy all that this beautiful area has to offer. Just remember that the gates are closed at sunset so make sure you bring your fun to a close before the sun goes down.
This area is located just off of Ladds Rd. which is only a short distance from the intersection of Hwy 34 and Hwy 215 in Fairfield County
