Geocache Description:

From a prayer of the woods to enjoying a waterfall below the Bays Mtn dam, this is a challenging ammo box to find.

This cache will require entrance to Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport, TN. Entry costs are $5 per car and hours are posted on their website. (see link above) Bays Mountain is a nature preserve owned and operated by the city of Kingsport, Tennessee. The facilities include the 3000 acre outdoor classroom, a 44 acre lake, and a nature center/museum, inside of which is a planetarium with a 40 foot diameter dome. The park is nestled in the northeastern end of the Bays Mountain formation only a few miles from downtown Kingsport. Framed on all sides by mountain ridges, much of the park lies in a natural basin and is a protected haven for wildlife. In 1907 a group of businessmen began buying land on top of the mountain. Their plan was to build a dam and create a lake which would be the water supply for the future city of Kingsport. The site was particularly well-suited for this because the formation of the two parts of the mountain made it possible to only build a small dam to create the lake, complete with its watershed well protected. In 1914 these men sold the property to the Kingsport Waterworks Corporation. By that time the property included the entire watershed, 1300 acres. From 1915 to 1917 a series of events took place that would forever change the landscape and the course of history for a part of Bays Mountain. These events also set the stage for the creation of Bays Mountain Park. In 1915, trees and buildings were removed from the area to be covered by the lake. On April 1916 work began on the dam. Stone was quarried about a hundred and fifty feet below the dam itself. The remains of this quarry has been partially covered by the present park access road. The stone was hauled to the dam site by teams of mules. A crane at the spillway, powered by a mule, was used to hoist the stones up on the dam. The spillway of the dam feeds a creek that tumbles down Dolan Gap through Eastman Chemical’s Recreation Park at the base of the mountain. As for the offset geocache, the coordinates provided will bring you to a sign near one end of the dam. Read the prayer to solve the final coordinates of the ammo box hidden in Dolan Gap, which are: N 36 30.ABC W 82 36.DEF where A = number of verses starting with the word "I" B = number of words with seven or more letters in the entire prayer C = number of "B"s in the second verse D = number of words beginning with vowels in the middle verse E = number of letters in first word of the last verse (starts with "Y") F = number of words in the actual prayer by the woods (at the end) Check sum: A+B+C = 19 D+E+F = 12 There is a path along the left side of the waterfall as it works its way down the mountain. The park has now installed a footbridge across the creek. The cache was adopted in March 2010. The difficulty rating was increased by one star as more hidden from the children who enjoy playing around the rocks in the stream. Congrats for those who do find it, and please rehide it well so that the ammo box will remain in the field.
