Geocache Description:

This is a treasure hunt for kids they can find without a GPS. There is an ammo box with a pirate’s chest containing gems only a kid can appreciate. But to get inside the treasure chest one must hunt for 3 numbers to open its combination lock. The posted coordinate is the location of the ammo box containing a log book and the treasure chest. If you do not wish to see inside the locked Treasure Chest of Sparkles’, you may use your GPS and sign the log without the need for the combination numbers.

Even though not wooded, terrain requires caution because it is a vacant lot not maintained with such hazards as muddy when wet, uneven ground with many potential ankle spraining holes, fire ants and possibly other critters. Approach as non-urban hunt using geosense caution.
DRIVER WARNING!!
The location of the lot is on a narrow dead end neighborhood street with no turn around. The original driveway is beside the street lamp only 2 car lengths deep. You may pull in and out there but do not drive into or turn around in the lot itself. The owner gave permission but assumes no liability and warns: “The gas line and meter on the lot are marked near the easement. Please do not park or drive over this area.” (The old house that was pushed into a heap may have left behind tire puncture objects. The ground is “a get stuck require a tow truck trap”.)

GeoKids are encouraged to sign the log book. (Think of all the times they’ve wanted to sign. Now let them do it!) Allow them to select a pirate’s gem as a keepsake. Tell them Sparkles said, “You don’t even have to leave anything in return.”

Highlight and "Print Selection" between the dotted lines for the description to give to the treasure seekers along with a writing instrument.

Treasure Chest of Sparkles'
GeoKids:
WATCH WHERE YOU STEP AND PUT YOUR HANDS TO AVOID ANT BITES! USE CAUTION WHILE WALKING DUE TO MANY HOLES THAT CAN SPRAIN ANKLES!
There is a treasure chest hidden in an ammo box.
But first you need the numbers to the combination lock to get into the treasure chest.
The lock number choices are 1 through 9.
The lock has a top, middle and bottom number so you will need 3 numbers.
Three yellow bricks each have one of the numbers and secret code attached.
Your mission is to find the numbers and note the color of a bead attached.
YOU MUST NOT ALLOW MUGGLES TO SEE YOU!
DO NOT REMOVE A BRICK OR WHAT IS ATTACHED TO IT!
COVER EACH ONE SO MUGGLES DO NOT FIND IT.

To find the bricks look:

-Under the bush near the lamp post: Number? _____Color? ________

-Behind a big stump: Number? _____ Color? ________

-At the base of a tall pine tree: Number? _____Color?_________

The order of the numbers for the combination:
Think about a traffic light.
Place the numbers in the same order:

Color_______ Top Number______

Color_______ Middle Number_____

Color______ Bottom Number_____

Ok, now you have the combination so on to the treasure chest:
It is very old so PLEASE HANDLE IT GENTLY AND TRY NOT TO LET IT GET WET. Oh, and don’t forget to hide it like you find it and spin the combination before leaving. Also remember to sign the log book.

Oops, almost forgot to tell you where to go for the treasure chest in the ammo box:
Stand at the tall pine tree and face the street.
Walk to the tree in front of you and look in the bushes.

Please note in your online log entry if you chose to only sign the log or if you allowed the kid-in-yourself to come out to play seeking the entire journey to view the treasures. (Hey you get the credit either way.) Members of the ijeep family made a successful find of and entry into the treasure chest at 0800 2/7/09.
