This cache will bring you to one of many disused railway bridges in West Cork. This 12 Arch railway bridge spans an inlet of Roaringwater Bay, and dominates the estuary here in Ballydehob. On the 6th of September 1886, the local railway station was opened for the first time, connecting it to Skibbereen, and from there onto Cork and beyond.
However, with the introduction of the motor car and bus services, the demise of the railway was underway, and in January 1947 the station finally closed, and has never opened since.
Now the bridge is part of a small walkway, which on a clear day offers great views of the surrounding area.
