How Geocaching Works
The Neal Smith Trail is a segment of the longer Saylorville Trail. It runs north from University Avenue to the City limits along the Des Moines River, and then to Big Creek State Park. Length is approximately 4.4 miles within the City; total length is about 23.7 miles. Surface is asphalt and width is approximately 6'-8' wide.
Coordinates will take you to a container. Inside the container will contain photos. You will need to follow the photos to the FINAL cache site. Please return the photo's back to the Original Container upon completion.
This idea came from Iowa Tom which we both share a passion for photography. I come down to this area often in the winter months shooting pictures of the bald eagles. However, this winter 2010 has been a very bad year for the bald eagles in our area and I haven't been seeing as many.
This is a great cache to bring your dog and enjoy the outdoors. Optimal months to do this cache is September through April. This cache is rated based upon the following:
Difficulty: The time it takes to complete the Pictocache.
Terrain: The distance traveled to complete the Pictocache, no climbing required.

Update 3/8/10...a few people have struggled between stage #2 and #3. Make sure you go over and past the deadfall and that should put you in the right spot.
