Now imagine that you get to the posted coordinates for a cache and you have to position yourself an a certain altitude. Well, there's an app for that... Now imagine you have to pinpoint a location on the ground based on inclination... yup, you guessed it, there's an app for that too. There's an app for just about anything..."
Not quite the hike up as Lookout Above I nor the journey required to find the final for Lookout Above II, but this one is no less challenging, only from a technical standpoint. The cache coordinates will take you to the Lookout Tower in High Cliff State Park. You will need to have a couple of tools at your disposal:
A. Compass B. Altimeter C. Inclinometer
Most GPS units will have the first 2 and some higher quality compasses have inclinometers included. If you have none of these available to you, try borrowing someone's iPhone.
To find the cache, go to the Lookout Tower and attain an elevation of 885-890'. Stand at the edge and using a bearing of 305-310°, search for a non-natural p-commoncachebeacon-q at an inclination of -5 to -6°. Mark your spot and then go have a look. You'll know you are CLOSE TO the right place when you are standing near friends. Now, go have a look at the near end of the OTHER similar non-natural beacon, the one that you couldn't see from the tower. Find a small container there which holds the coordinates for the final.
