The Trans Canada Trail - Caledon Section
The trail is easy but to find the cache is hard.
This is a steel bridge that was built by the army. The Bailey Bridge is known throughout the world for the abilty to transport it and quickly assemble it. Built in short sections this bridge can be screwed and bolted together, yet is sturdy enough to transport loads and people across it safely.
The cache is a camoflauged Altoid’s tin.
The Trans Canada Trail is a network of trails linked together to forge one continuous trail from “Sea Unto Shining Sea”. Over 18078 km of trail winds it’s way through every Province and Territory of Canada.
Ontario has over 4000 km of registered trail. The land on which the Trail is being built is a combination of crown, municipal and private land holdings.
The Caledon section of the Trans Canada Trail, runs North South from Hwy 9 West of Blackstone, to Palgrave, to Caledon East across Highway 10 to Inglewood. Total length of the trail is 25.5km. A multi-use trail, it is used for hiking, cycling, horseback riding, cross country skiing and geocachers.
The Caledon section of the Trans Canada Trail was once owned by the CNR and was known as part of the Grand Truck Railway. Built between 1877 and 1879, the Grand Trunk ran from Georgetown to Beeton, and then swung up to Meaford. The rail line ceased offering of it’s services around 1958/59.
