You may start from either end of the section of the coast path
between Aberystwyth and Clarach Bay, although parking will be
easier at the Clarach end. From this direction the ascent is almost
continuous and involves a climb up some steep steps.
From Aberystwyth you may take the cliff railway or walk up
Constitution Hill. From the Games Room you can then either: cross
the concrete bridge and take the lower path to use the actual cliff
path; or take the upper level by the frisbee golf, follow the
marked footpaths close to the radar station and go across the
fields - this direction involves climbing over a steps-and-stile
just before the cache location so you need to be pretty fit and
able to climb at heights.
There are benches at strategic points along the coastal path so
you can sit and take in the views. You may see dolphins, porpoise
and seals from here, as well as many different types of gull,
cormorant, peregrines, red kite and stonechat.
You are looking for a small green plastic dog tag which is very
well concealed. It has a piece of black string attached to extract
it from the hiding place, which might be a bit of a give-away.
Should the string become detached or lost please leave a note in
the log and I will do a maintenance visit.
Safety Notes: As always, care should be taken whilst searching
for this cache. The path along the coastal section is steep sided,
narrow and becomes muddy in wet weather. The weather may change
very quickly so keep an eye on the horizon and take appropriate
equipment with you. It is not advisable to attempt this cache in
very windy weather. I know from experience when setting this one
that strong winds can get up at a moment's notice! You will be
vulnerable and at risk of being blown off the cliff.
The cache is NOT located close to the edge of the cliff so
please do not search there.
I hope those who found the Rainbow Series too easy will have a
challenge with this one.
Happy hunting!
