Third time is the charm! Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

MERobison: Drove by this morning and construction going on. I had hoped to get the container, but it is already gone. Going to archive since construction will be the case here until they finish Houghton. :(

Geocache Description:

Thanks to 2Sonians for the Meet & Greet event (GC3A898), I won a container!  And this container wasn't just a pill bottle, but rather a fully stocked ammo container!!!

Having failed epically to get this cache placed thus far, I'm hoping the third time is the charm. My first attempt (GC4EB28) became a journey in and of itself. I never did get to the location I wanted, but the drive made up for that. Apparently most of the area south and east of Tucson can't have geocaches due to AZ state trust land. I was too close or just barely on AZ state trust land, and denied. For my second attempt (GC4EPT6), I found a tunnel that goes under the train tracks that I wasn't aware of being in the area. Knowing it could not be near the railroad tracks, I thought I put it far enough away. Nope, too close to the tracks still (must be minimum 150 ft away), so denied again. I share my experiences as education for other cachers planning to create a new cache. If you read the archived logs of the two epic fails, it shares additional information like a letter from AZ state trust land folks, a link to see where AZ state trust land is, and a reference to a high fine and bomb squad for a cache near a railroad. UPDATE: Sorry, you can't view the failed attempts since they never published, even though they are archived now. See below in logs on 7/6/13 for the info on AZ State Trust Land restriction.

So, now on to attempt number three, I am near the line, but there should be nothing preventing approval of GZ this time. It is a high traffic area, so please use stealth. The cache is kid friendly.

Watch out for the usual desert critters.

Congratulations to thebell5 for FTF!!
