Geocache Description:

Regular Cache located at a roadside park. This cache is located within a county park.

At the time of Euro-American settlement, approximately 85 percent of Iowa was covered by diverse grasses, wildflowers and wildlife comprising the tallgrass prarie. Savannas, a type of prarie, were placed containing scattered trees, usually fire resistant burr oaks. They were fairly typical in the landscape of Eastern Iowa. today, less than 0.1 percent of Iowa's native prarie landscape remains. This reconstructed savanna provides "a feel" for what our native landscape looked like.
