Searcy's 1st Ever Meet & Greet Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

woodwalker9: Well it's time to put this one to rest. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did and I wish to thank everyone for attending. Without you, we could not have had an event. A HUGE thank you to my fellow Searcy geocacachers who really did do the work that made this event such a success. You guys are the greatest and I am thrilled to call everyone of you friends.

Until next time, be safe, have fun, and happy caching.

Geocache Description:

The Searcy area geocachers, in conjunction with the Searcy Parks Department, extend an invitation to everyone to come join the fun on September 29th as they host their very first meet and greet event. The event will be held at pavilion 1 in Searcy’s beautiful Riverside Park and will start at 8:00 a.m. and run through 3:00 p.m. with a 1 hour break for lunch at noon. Facilities at the park includes restrooms, hiking trails, playground equipment, basketball goals, volley ball court, and at present, 12 geocaches with several others within a short driving distance.

Note: For the early arrivers, Searcykid will have coffee and we will also have an assortment of donuts.

Scheduled activities include:

A poker run-coordinates to be given out at time of sign in and prizes awarded after returning from the lunch break.

Kids cache-Especially for those 12 and under. Searcykid has some special prizes for these young cachers and we are sure they will have a great time. Also for the kids, Searcykid will have coloring books and crayons and he is bringing frisbees for the older kids. Also, by special request, he has agreed to once again set up his dart throwing booth and will have some stuffed toys for all the winners. Please note in your “will attend” log how many kids under 12 will be attending.

GPS Accuracy Contest-Sign up when you arrive and get your coordinates and flag. Then go see how close you can place your flag to a predetermined spot. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded after the lunch break.

Workshops-KD5JNL will be holding a 45 minute Geocaching 101 workshop starting at 9:00 a.m. for all those who are new to the game or anyone who might have a question concerning geocaching.

From 10:00a.m. until 10:45a.m. come learn all about going paperless. Forget printing out all those cache pages and see how easy paperless caching can be. We will also be explaining how to do a Pocket Query to download up to 500 waypoints at one time.

At 11:00a.m. Team Pink will hold a workshop on GSAK(Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). This is a fantastic program that takes the work out of handling your downloaded waypoints. Come see the benifits of this outstanding geocaching program.

Be sure to sign up for these very informative classes when you arrive.

Geo-bingo-Get your bingo card when you sign in and then enjoy the fun trying to fill in the squares. The first, second, and third completed entries will receive prizes awarded after returning from our lunch break.

Camo contest-Dress up a cache and win a prize. The three top vote getters will be awarded prizes. Ballots to vote for the people’s choice will be given to everyone when they sign in.

Travel Bug and Geocoins- We will have a table set up for those who wish to bring your bugs and coins to trade or just to show.

If you have coins or TB's that you wish to trade, feel free to drop them into the event and email me the tracking number at woodwalker9@gmail.com . I will then have a printout of those trackables to make it easier for those wishing to discover them.

If you have a collection of coins or TB's that you will be showing but will not be trading, please bring a list of tracking numbers for all those who wish to discover them.

Pocket Caches- We will also have several pocket caches floating around, so be sure to introduce yourself to everyone you meet. They just may be carrying a cache.

NOTE: Although there are no formal plans for a noontime meal, we encourage everyone to bring a picnic and enjoy this fantastic park. There are a few charcoal grills in the park that will be available to those who wish to use them. Picnic tables are also available, but you might want to bring your lawn chairs and find a shady spot under one of the many nice shade trees in the park. Also, for those who do not wish to picnic, it is only a short drive to several restaurants and loads of fast food establishments.

The following fast food establishments have committed to donating gift certificates for sandwiches, drinks, and even a few pizza buffets. These will be available at the registration table.

Sonic Drive Inn - Pizza Pro - Burger King

Note: Several of us are meeting at Ryan's Restaurant after the board meeting Friday night. That should be around 7:30p.m. to 8:00p.m. Everyone is invited to come join us for some cache talk and fellowship.

The following companies and/or people have contributed or made donations to this event. Please be sure to thank them when you have a chance and choose them when possible.
