Geocache Description:

This is an easy and short hike filled with history and artifacts. Perfect as a family outing that is as much about the surroundings as it is about Geocaching! UPDATED on 9/4/17 - Replaced geocache with new box! It is now well sheltered and secure, filled with wonderful new goodies!

In 2002 Geocaching was a "hiking" sport, the idea was to encourage hiking to unique and beautiful locations with the "reward" in finding a cache at the end of the trail. This is how we first introduced our own kids to the joys of day hiking... Now, 15+ years later the cache has been updated, placed in a better location, and with the more advanced GPS equipment, the coordinates should be +/- 3' from actual placement. The area has changed a bit since the original placement 15+ years ago. Originally we had placed it under a downed tree. The new location is just a few yards away and in more "historically" interesting surroundings that would be missed by most "casual" hikers. This is the outdoors, bring water, bug spray, watch for wildlife, and be aware of the fire danger in the dryer months. This is an EASY hike! Bring the kids and let them run around to find the cache once you get close. Be advised that the trail is a popular one, so please re-hide the cache with care. Start at the parking area N 34' 17.254 W 117' 12.500 and take trail 3W15 to start your adventure. If you’re planning to enjoy outdoor adventures in the Southern California National Forests, a Forest Adventure Pass is required. Valid for one year from the date of purchase, this pass is accepted at all of the following National Forests: Angeles National Forest, Cleveland National Forest, Los Padres National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest. You can obtain a daily pass for $5 or yearly pass for $30 HERE: https://www.myscenicdrives.com/store/item/forest-passes/southern-california/annual Make sure you spend some time exploring the MANY Indian acorn grinding rocks in the area. For more hiking continue on the trail to see the rest of the sights. See Hints/Spoiler and photos for more information... Good Luck, John 3:16
