Geocache Description:

Located along a rarely used footpath, hidden away behind the new settlement of Quarrendon, Aylesbury, rests a circular path which passes 2 sets of remains. This is a medium lengthed multi, which will take you on a walk of around one & a half miles in total, introducing you to some more of Buckinghamshires hidden secrets along the way. Bring a torch with you if visiting at night, as this can be a more than creepy wander in the daytime.

This map will guide you along the trail. However, although it shows a footpath which you will be on for part of your trip, you should follow the clearly marked circular walk markers as they will take you to the correct locations and then back to the starting point. The coords at the top of this page will take you to the ideal starting location where you will find the first one of these markers, and ample space for a parked car without intrusion. Starting else where will lead to further walking distances. Before starting your walk please remember to take a pair of gloves with you in case nettles grow at cache locations, & remember a good/old pair of shoes for walking, the cache wasn't muddy in the summer but may become so in other seasons. Locate the following to find 2 micro caches containing information to complete the final cache, good luck...

N51° 50.373 W000° 49.797: The Disused Pumping Station...

This is the first of 2 oddities which you will pass. I have been able to unearth no details about this location, other than the fact it was once a pumping station. The area was once fenced off by the looks of things, but now it has fallen into disuse the barriers have been pulled down in many places & the main entrance remains wide open where there was once a closed gate. I have no idea who this ruin belongs to if anyone. After inspection it is made up of 2 main towers, both with metal steps leading to roof areas, and another ground floor building. Both towers have vast space inside. The grass inside the compound is littered with literally hundreds of shot gun cartridges, which lead to my decision to place the first part of this multi just outside. It is your decision as to whether you explore here, I take no responsibility for anyone’s actions.

Inside a hole where the light used to shine.

N51° 50.178 W000° 50.340: The remains of St.Peters church...

Our second port of call is the ruin of St.Peters church which is the only remaining visible structure from the original medieval Quarrendon Village which stood here many hundreds of years ago. The Village gave birth to its very own Saint by the name of St.Osyth who strangely is the patron saint of women who have lost their keys. Not many people seem to know about the settlement & it is rarely documented. You are likely to be alone here (baring the sheep), so make sure to take a few minutes to enjoy the seclusion & history. Close by a large plaque will supply you with details of the dwellings & another will supply you with a map of the location.

If trees had elbows this one would have loose cartiledge.

You should now have 6 answers collected. Use these to complete this final set of coords & then find the cache by using them.

I hope you enjoy these little known parts of history. Please post any photos taken in your logs. Dan...
