This is a 5-stop tour in downtown Palo Alto with a theme of Energy that Powers our World. While some cities chose to decorate their fire hydrants, the City commissioned several artists to paint their impressions of the energy theme on the Traffic Control boxes located at several intersections in the downtown, transforming them from plain forest-green boxes to colorful depictions of various energy alternatives. This was done during the Spring and Summer of 2004 as part of the public art program in the city.
On this tour, which covers a distance of about a half mile on the two major streets of University and Hamilton, you will visit these decorated Traffic Control boxes to obtain information which will enable you to determine the location of the micro cache, a 2 x 3 x 3/4 inch magnetic key container. Because of the trees and buildings in the downtown area, your GPS may give you jittery readings, but the boxes should be readily found by looking around the general area of the intersection. The boxes are supported by posts at a height of about 5 feet.
At each stop, answer the questions to get values for A through M. (Note: Some of the letters may have the same values.) Then, solve the equations to arrive at the cache location. Pencil, paper, and a calculator can be of great assistance.
