Geocache Description:

The Lowcountry Geocachers will be conducting a cleanup event of the Edisto River beginning at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 12, 2007. We have scheduled this event to coincide with the Friends of the Edisto (FRED) Stewardship Day.

The $2.00 State Park entrance fee is waived for those participating in Stewardship Day. All participants will also receive a free FRED T-Shirt! After the clean up, we will head to the Colleton County Recreation Complex for the SCGA May Meeting. It will start with a potluck lunch at 1:00 PM.

We will meet at the coordinates above to sign in and distribute supplies. We will be in charge of cleaning the Edisto River from Givhans Ferry State Park downriver to Norman's Landing (N 32° 59.073 W 080° 24.504). Please bring a geovessel (boat, canoe, etc) if you have one available. A group will use the geovessels to clean the river downstream, while those who wish to stay on land will clean the banks at the State Park and the nearby Givhans Bridge (SC Hwy 61).

FRED is a small group of citizens focusing on preserving the quality of water and habitat of the Edisto River watershed. FRED cannot clean the entire watershed, so they ask volunteer groups to hold cleanup events throughout the year. In previous years, geocachers have helped clean stretches of the Edisto River and the boat landings that provide access to the Edisto River. The Edisto River is part of the ACE BASIN, which is comprised of the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto Rivers, where numerous caches are hidden.
