Geocache Description:

This cache is placed at the Ōshōjibashi Intersection.

Old Ōshōji Street was a part of Takenouchi Kaido Road and West Kōya Kaido Road. Takenouchi Kaido Road is one of the oldest national roads which were planned to build by the government in order to connect the Capital City Asuka and other cities in 613. Ōshōji Street was also designated as the border of Settsu Province and Izumi Province. This is because the city was named “Sakai” which means “border”. Today, this street connects Sakai Station and Sakaihigashi Station.
Near the cache point, there was a moat surrounding the city and a bridge crossing the moat. The moat was buried, however, a part of the bridge is left at this intersection. Some literature insist that this bridge was the origin of Takenouchi Kaido Road and West Kōya Kaido Road.
