Geocache Description:

Lipova.
Lipova , a small town in Western Romania, was founded in the 15th century. It is situated in the beautiful winedistrict Podgoria at the foot of the Zarand Mountains. The river Mures divides the town in two parts: Radna en Soimos at the northern bank and Lipova Baile at the southern bank.

Monastry Maria Radna
The biggest touristic attraction in Lipova is without any doubt the fransiscan monastry Maria Radna. The construction of the monastry took three centuries, from 1551 until 1826.
During its existence it was several times attacked by the Turkish invaders, who burned it down, but every time the local religious community reconstructed their monastry.
Because of their dedication we can admire even today the magnificent paintings and ornaments inside the church.

The hill behind the monastry imitates Golgotha, the hill near Jerusalem where Jesus Christ was crucified. At the foot of the monastry starts a steep and winding path with fourteen stations of the Cross. The stoney path ends uphill at the foot of the Cross.
Every year at August 15th thousands of pilgrims from all over Europe come to Lipova to creep the path all the way up until they reach the cross of Jesus.

The cache

Maintenance of the cache: Because we don't live in Romania, our good friends Camelia and Alexander Oncu, who live in Lipova, will maintain the cache.
July 2013: Thanks to barlang-aszok the cache is replaced and can be found again.
