Välkommen till Östersund, Sveriges 24:e största stad
med en folkmängd på ca 43 000 invånare.
Staden grundades 1786 av Gustav III och är den enda stad i
Sverige som grundades på 1700-talet.
Namnet Östersund kommer från det smala sund som skiljer
Frösön från fastlandet, Östersundet
ursprungligen Östra sundet
vilket idag är så smalt som 150 m på sina
ställen.
