This is as close to Iowa wilderness as it gets. The peninsula formed by Lake Redrock between the Des Moines River and Calhoen Creek is tough to get to. This is a 2.5 mile hike along the peninsula trail (the last mile is nasty bush-wacking, bring a machete/hatchet), or a 2.5 mile muddy beach walk along either side of the peninsula (bring good boots for mud), or a mile paddle. Difficulty rating does not include the use of a motor boat, which would make this an easy one.

A second option is a 2.5 mile one way hike along the lake beach on either side of the penensula (have good mud boots for this one). My prefered method is the 1 mile one way paddle. This is also tricky due to head winds. The difficulty rating would be much easier if a motor boad is used.
The cache is a ammo can at the base of the largest stump on the point. It is at an elevation of 775' which is just below the 1993 highest water mark. This makes it out of reach of all but the 100 year flood levels.
