This series of caches is dedicated to those New Mexico State Police Officers who gave their final measure of devotion to the citizens of the state of New Mexico. Some lost their lives due to violence and others due to traffic or other accidents.
Sgt. Andrew (Andy) Tingwall died following a State Police helicopter crash on a mountainside near Santa Fe. He and a police observer had just taken off after rescuing a stranded hiker when the helicopter struck the mountainside and crashed. Despite being severely injured, the observer was able to hike from the area the following morning and was located by a rescue party. An intense search was initiated but rescuers had difficulty reaching the crash site due to weather and terrain. The bodies of Sgt. Tingwall and the hiker were located two days later when rescuers were able to reach the scene of the crash. This cache is the last of the series. It contains a TB for the FTF and other trade items.
