Enorm oppmerksomhet
Med vedtaket 15. september 1988, ble hele verdens oppmerksomhet
rettet mot Lillehammer og områdene rundt. Oppmerksomheten var
overveldende. Her kommer en kort fremstilling av opptakten til
avgjørelsen;
OL-92
I 1983 vedtar Lillehammer kommune at man skal melde sin interesse
for Vinter-OL i 1992. I 1985 framsetter regjeringen sitt tilbud om
statsgaranti og kommunestyret i Lillehammer sier ja til å søke om å
få tildelt vinter-OL i 1992. Søknaden leveres i IOCs hovedkvarter i
Lausanne i Sveits innen fristen den 1. mars 1986.
Nedtur
17. oktober 1986 tildeles byen Albertville i Frankrike,
vinterlekene i 1992.
Prøver igjen
I 1987 vedtar kommunestyret å søke om OL i 1994.
OL-94
Den 15. september 1988 vedtar IOC så:
«The decision is Lillehammer»
Og i 1994 "The best game ever", - Samaranchs avslutningstale med de
berømte odrene «You may have Presented to the Entire World - The
best Olympic Winter Games ever!"

Huge attention
With the decision 15th of September 1988, the entire World's
attention was directed to Lillehammer and the surrounding areas.
The attention was overwhelming. Here is a brief presentation of the
prelude to the decision;
OL-92
In 1983, Lillehammer adopts that one should register their interest
about the Winter Olympics in 1992. In 1985, after the government's
offer of government guarantees, the municipal council in
Lillehammer say yes to apply for the Winter Olympics in 1992. The
application was delivered in the IOC headquarters in Lausanne in
Switzerland within the deadline March 1st in 1986.
A step back
The 17th of October 1986 the city of Albertville, France, was
awarded the Winter Games in 1992.
Trying again
In 1987, the municipal council decides to apply for the Olympics in
1994.
OL-94
On the 15th of September 1988, the IOC approves:
"The decision is Lillehammer"
And in 1994 "The best game ever", - Samaranch's closing speech with
the famous words "You may have Presented To The Entire World - The
best Olympic Winter Games ever!"
